Onne van der Wal Photography Workshops and Lectures
Have you ever wondered how Onne van der Wal gets his amazing photos? What technical tricks does he employ to shoot with great results in the challenging marine environment? What is his digital workflow and how does he convert his raw files? In the summer of 2009, Onne answered the long time requests of his followers and began offering Photo Workshops to give insight into his photography. We have had great success with 2 years of “Workshops on the Water” held over the summer and fall of 2009 and 2010. These unique workshops bring shutter bugs and working pros out on the water to shoot lighthouses boats and coastal scenes of Narragansett Bay from aboard a beautifully restored lobster boat The Gansett. These workshops put shooters right in the action and have opened the door for other workshops like it and more with a different spin. In January of 2010 for the first time we took 4 eager photographers with us to Culebra, PR for a Workshop on the [Warm] Water, again from aboard a boat as we cruised the Spanish Virgin Islands. we hope to do more workshops like this in the future.
2011 SUMMER WORKSHOPS:
Onne taught 2 of 3 scheduled Newport "Workshops on the Water," (one was cancelled due to bad weather) teaching the basics and some advanced techniques of digital photography when shooting from a moving (and wet and unstable) platform - like a boat! We thank all of you who joined us on one of these amazing boat rides. They are open to 12 photographers of any level using a DSLR.
We will continue to offer these popular workshops next summer, 2012. Information and dates will be posted in Spring 2012.

RECENT WORKSHOPS
The January 2010 "Workshop on the Water" in Culebra, PR and the Spanish Virgin Islands was a great success!
We held 2 summer "Workshops on the Water" during the summer of 2010. Both were held aboard the perfectly suited motor boat, Gansett. Our first workshop was during the Classic Yacht Regatta in Narragansett Bay. 15 photographers joined us and had front row seats for a perfect day of sun and wind!! (25 knots+). We hope to offer this workshop again next summer as it was deemed a great success.
Our second workshop was a beautiful afternoon and evening session in and around Newport and Narragansett Bay, shooting Shields Racing & Women's Match Racing Worlds, lighthouses, cruise ships and the Nantucket Lightship and a beautiful sunset over Newport Harbor.
We will be posting a gallery of everyone's images sometime this winter when it slows down a bit here in the studio! Thanks to all our workshop attendees...many of which were aboard Gansett with use for a second and third time doing the workshop!
